Biography
BEGINNINGS
Michael’s entrepreneurial roots trace back to his upbringing in New Jersey, where his father encouraged business thinking at an early age. By sixth grade, Michael was negotiating informal contracts with his dad. By 16, he launched his first venture—a motorcycle accessory shop.
After earning a B.S. in Accounting with a concentration in Computer Science from William Paterson University (completing the four-year program in just three years), Michael began his professional career at General Motors. He then entered public accounting with a New Jersey firm, earning his CPA license. In 1988, a California-based construction firm engaged his services, prompting his relocation to Ventura County in 1990.
EARLY YEARS IN CALIFORNIA
Soon after arriving in California, Michael established his own accounting practice at Channel Islands Harbor. He continued to serve clients in both California and New Jersey. After his father’s passing in 1999, he temporarily returned to New Jersey, entrusting his California practice to a trusted local firm.
Drawn back to Southern California, Michael accepted a CFO position with a software company headquartered on the 20th floor of the Oxnard Tower during the height of the Dot-Com boom. There, he collaborated with Intel and developed a major section of their corporate website. This experience sparked a deep interest in programming and digital systems. The company successfully spun off several divisions before the tech industry’s downturn.
Maintaining his accounting roots, Michael continued to handle complex projects for multi-national corporations—often involving forensic accounting and transitional management—frequently referred by long-standing legal relationships.
WEB ENTREPRENEURSHIP
In parallel with his accounting work, Michael combined his passion for motorcycles and technology by launching "Sportbikes.com", which quickly became the internet’s leading motorcycle community. At its peak in 2006, Michael and his small development team launched a full-featured online magazine.
Around the same time, he also founded "X-Sports Marketing™", a niche marketing firm focused on the motorsports industry. The firm played a pivotal role in developing several landmark aftermarket brands through strategic digital campaigns, sponsorship development, and early adoption of online community engagement.
In 2007, "Sportbikes.com" was named "Community Site of the Year" by Ektron, Inc., and was later merged with the online publisher Vertical Scope. Michael’s early insight into social networking was later cited in the Aberdeen Group’s white paper "Customer 2.0" as a reference case study.
Michael is also an "accomplished photographer", with work published in several mainstream magazines and across dozens of websites. In 2004, his photography was formally "recognized and awarded by peer photographers", underscoring his talent for visual storytelling. His creative eye has been a valuable asset in both his entrepreneurial ventures and professional branding efforts.
CAMARILLO CPA FIRM
In 2005, Michael founded "DiSabatino, CPA" in Camarillo, California. The boutique nature of the firm allowed clients to work directly with Michael, whose services ranged from personal tax preparation to CFO-level financial consulting.
The firm’s clientele spanned local families, $30 million manufacturing companies, entertainers, and global business leaders—including a two-year engagement with the individual ranked as the sixth richest person in the world at the time.
Serving high-net-worth individuals offered invaluable exposure to integrated team strategies focused on protecting clients’ financial, legal, and physical interests. These high-stakes, collaborative environments shaped Michael’s future CFO approach, laying the foundation for his holistic style of financial stewardship.
Michael was also "recognized and admitted as an expert witness in federal court". He testified as a forensic accountant in litigation against a publicly held restaurant corporation—and prevailed—solidifying his reputation for high-level accounting expertise, even when up against powerful, well-resourced adversaries.
